Kayak Rental

Sea Kayaking Is a Fun, Affordable Activity for the Whole Family

Sea kayaking is a fun, active addition to any Fort Lauderdale vacation. Kayaking is easy to learn and suitable for people of all ages. Have some fun out on the water during your Florida vacation with a kayak rental from American Watersports in Pompano Beach.

Fun for the Entire Family

Sea kayaking is enjoyable for the entire family – really! With the use of one of our double kayaks, even young children or those with limited mobility can enjoy kayaking. Plus, kayaking can be as relaxing or as adventurous as you desire; you set the pace, and you decide how long to stay out on the water.

Kayaking Basics

If you’ve never been in a kayak, we’ll be happy to show you the ropes. Essentially, all you need to know are three simple strokes:

  1. Forward Strokes – Put your paddle in the water near your toes, keeping the paddle shaft vertical, and pull backwards until you reach the front of the cockpit. Paddle at your own pace to control your speed. To maintain direction, alternate strokes between the left and right sides of the kayak.
  2. Sweep Strokes – Sweep strokes are intended to turn the kayak. Dip the paddle into the water near your toes, and keep the paddle shaft as horizontal as possible. Make a wide, shallow arc in the water, sweeping the paddle from tip to tip. One of the best ways to accomplish a smooth turn is to combine forward and reverse sweeps.
  3. Corrective Strokes – The wind and the waves have a tendency to push your boat to one side. To maintain direction, you may have to adjust how you finish your forward stroke. When performing a corrective stroke, rather than stopping at the front of the cockpit, draw the paddle slightly behind the body, drop your elbow to your hip, and hold the paddle power face down in the water until you’ve course corrected. Then continue paddling as normal, repeating this correction as often as necessary.

Practice Makes Perfect

The more you practice, the more comfortable you will become out on the water. With an affordable kayak rental from American Watersports, sea kayaking can become a regular part of your vacation routine! In addition to kayak rentals, we also offer great rates on SUP rentals and jet ski rentals. For more information, contact us at (954) 946-1811 or reserve a rental online today.
